Oliver and the Glowing Path

We don’t store the name — it is only used to show the story.
Oliver held Dad's hand as they stepped into the forest. The trees stood tall and dark, and their leaves went shh, shh, shh in the evening breeze. "It sounds like they are whispering," Oliver said, and he stepped a little closer to Dad.
The path ahead looked black as a shadow. Oliver stopped walking. "I don't like the dark, Dad," he said softly, tugging his sleeve.
Dad crouched down beside Oliver. "Let's look closely," he said. "Sometimes the dark is hiding something wonderful."
Just then, a tiny light blinked near a mossy log. It was Firefly, glowing softly with a golden light. He floated up and circled once, as if to say hello.
"Look, Dad!" Oliver whispered, forgetting to be scared for a moment. Firefly drifted a little way along the path, while Oliver stayed close to Dad, blinking gently, as if inviting them to follow.
Oliver took a brave step toward the log. There, tucked in the moss, were tiny mushrooms glowing pale blue and green, like little lanterns someone had planted in the earth.
"They're lighting up the ground," Oliver said, his eyes wide. Dad smiled. "Seems like the forest has its own little lamps."
With Firefly floating just ahead and the mushrooms glowing along the path, Oliver could see the way forward. The shadows did not feel so big anymore.
Oliver walked along the path beside Dad, past the cozy little islands of light. Dad walked close beside him, humming a quiet tune.
The trees still whispered, but now Oliver listened differently. "Maybe they are just saying goodnight," he said. Dad nodded. "That sounds just right."
Firefly blinked brighter as they came around a bend, and there, through the trees, Oliver saw the warm yellow windows of home.
"We found the way!" Oliver said, feeling proud and warm inside. He gave Dad's hand a happy squeeze.
Before they stepped out of the trees, Oliver turned back and whispered, "Thank you, Firefly." The little light blinked twice, as if saying goodnight, then glowed softly among the mushrooms.
Dad lifted Oliver up for a hug. "You were so brave tonight," he said. Oliver rested his head on Dad's shoulder, feeling sleepy and safe.
Inside, Oliver snuggled into bed, thinking of tiny lanterns and a small blinking friend. The forest felt less dark now. Dad was beside him, and he was safe at home. And with that cozy thought, Oliver drifted off to sleep.
