Noah stood outside the kindergarten door, holding Mom's hand very tight. He had a new backpack and shiny shoes, but his tummy felt full of little flutters.

Right there by the door waited a whole barnyard of animals, brought in for a special farm-visit day. A rooster strutted in a circle, a hen clucked softly, and a fluffy calf swished his tail. They were all waiting for the bell too.

On the little lamp above the door sat Firefly, glowing warm and gold. "Good morning," he whispered. "It's all right to feel shy. You can say hello when you're ready."

Noah looked around and noticed one small lamb tucked behind the calf's leg. She had curly white wool and big dark eyes, and she was hiding her face just like Noah wanted to hide his own.

"She's shy too," Noah whispered to Mom. Mom smiled and squeezed his hand. "Maybe you could say hello," she said softly.

Noah took one small step closer. "Hi," he said quietly. "I'm Noah. Are you waiting for the bell too?"

The lamb peeked out from behind the calf. She gave a tiny nod and a tiny smile, and Tom's tummy felt a little less fluttery.

Firefly floated down between them, his little light bobbing like a friendly nod. "See?" he whispered. "You found each other." Noah sat down on the step beside the lamb, and without many words, he showed his shoes while the lamb showed her curly wool, soft as a cloud.

Then the bell rang, bright and cheerful. The rooster crowed, and all the animals shuffled toward the open door, ready to visit the classroom.

Mom stayed close beside Noah and walked with him over to the animal helper. "Can my son say goodbye to the lamb before we go in?" Mom asked. The helper smiled and nodded. "May I pet her one more time?" Noah asked, and the helper said, "Of course, go gently." Noah reached out his hand and stroked the lamb's soft wool.

"Goodbye, little lamb," Noah said softly. The lamb gave one more tiny nod, then turned and trotted back to the helper's side. Noah watched her go, smiling, before turning to walk into the classroom with Mom.

Noah looked back once at Firefly, still glowing softly on the lamp. "Thank you," he whispered, and Firefly blinked his light like a wink.

That night, tucked into bed, Noah thought about the curly lamb and the bright classroom and the bell that had rung so cheerfully. His tummy felt calm and warm now, no more flutters at all.

Noah imagined Firefly's warm light blinking twice, as if saying goodnight. Noah smiled, closed his eyes, and drifted off to sleep, dreaming of soft wool and new friends.
