The Jar of Starlight

The attic was quiet and warm, full of soft shadows. Holding Grandma's hand, Mia carefully climbed the wooden stairs. A tiny glowing firefly bobbed along beside them, blinking a soft yellow light.
"I have something special to show you," Grandma whispered, kneeling by an old wooden trunk. She lifted out a small glass jar, dusty and dim. Inside, little lights floated and twinkled.
"Is that real starlight?" Mia asked, her eyes wide. She leaned closer, careful not to shake the jar too hard.
"I caught it many summers ago," Grandma said, smiling. "On a night when the sky was extra bright. I saved it for someone who needed sweet dreams."
The firefly landed on the rim of the jar and glowed a little brighter, its light showing where the lid was stuck. "Can I help open it?" Mia asked, looking up at Grandma. "Can we use it tonight?" she asked softly.
Grandma nodded and gently twisted the lid. A tiny puff of shimmer floated out, smelling faintly of cool night air. Mia cupped her hands and caught a few sparkling flecks, carefully and slowly.
They walked back down to Mia's cozy room, where the bed waited with its soft blanket. Mia climbed up and fluffed her pillow, ready for the magic to begin.
Mia opened her cupped hands and sprinkled the flecks of starlight over the pillow, with Grandma steadying her hands gently. It glimmered like tiny diamonds before sinking softly into the fabric. "Now your dreams will sparkle," she said, tucking the blanket around Mia.
Mia lay down and rested her head on the shimmering pillow. It felt cool and light, like a whisper of stars. The firefly settled on the windowsill, glowing steady and calm.
"What will I dream about?" Mia asked, her voice growing sleepy. "Something wonderful," Grandma said. "Maybe flying past the moon, or dancing with the stars themselves."
Mia smiled and closed her eyes, feeling warm and safe. The starlight glimmered softly around her, like a secret just for her.
Grandma kissed her forehead and turned down the lamp. The firefly dimmed his glow to a gentle flicker, watching over the room. "Sleep well, little star," Grandma whispered.
Mia breathed slowly and deeply, drifting toward sparkling dreams. The jar sat quietly on the shelf, waiting for another night, another wish, another sleepy little dreamer.
