Theo walked through the quiet woods with Mom, his boots crunching softly on the leaves. A tiny glowing light bobbed beside them. It was Firefly, blinking a warm greeting as the evening began to settle in.

Near a mossy hollow, Theo heard a small whimper. He crept closer and saw a baby fox curled at the mouth of a den, his little nose twitching with worry. "Where did his mama go?" Theo whispered to Mom.

Mom knelt beside Theo and smiled gently. "She went to find food," she said. "She will come back. Sometimes waiting is hard, even for little foxes."

Theo sat down near the den, not too close, and watched the baby fox pace in a small worried circle. Firefly landed on a twig nearby, glowing softly, as if to say, stay a while, little one.

"I know how you feel," Theo whispered to the fox. "I feel like that too, when Mom goes to the shop without me." The baby fox looked up, as if he understood every word.

Mom wrapped an arm around Theo and they sat together on a smooth log. "Waiting feels easier with someone beside you," Mom said. "And it feels warmest right here, close to home."

Theo nodded and began to hum a soft little tune, the one Mom sang at bedtime. The baby fox stopped pacing and curled up by the den, listening, his tail wrapped around himself like a blanket.

Firefly floated low, lighting up the mossy ground with a gentle golden glow. Theo watched the light dance and felt his own worry grow smaller, like a puddle drying in the sun.

Then, from between the trees, a rustle. The mother fox appeared, carrying something soft in her mouth. The baby fox jumped up, tail wagging, and dashed to meet her with a happy little bark.

Theo smiled wide, watching them nuzzle together at the den. "She came back," Theo said softly. "Just like you said, Mom."

"She always does," Mom said, squeezing his hand. "And so do I, every single time."

As they walked home, Firefly lit the path in soft little glimmers, guiding them safely between the trees. Theo felt cozy and calm, thinking of the little fox curled up warm beside his mama.

Tucked into bed, Theo closed his eyes, remembering the den, the hum, and the joyful little bark. Firefly's glow dimmed to a gentle flicker on the windowsill, and Theo drifted off to sleep, warm and unworried, knowing Mom was always near.
